Normalize Uncertainty

This is the second one in my current list of 50.

Normalize uncertainty.

I first heard of this idea from Chris Voss, the famous FBI negotiator.

While he used other wording for the idea, the idea has stuck with me since.

Essentially, when we normalize uncertainty (or expect and embrace it), we begin to see it as an opportunity.

An opportunity for creativity and innovation.

An opportunity for something new.

This is about mindset, not lack of planning or consistency.

It’s about how we approach life circumstances and events.

Not assuming we know every answer, but expecting to find something new tucked away in little crevices of life.

It unlocks a part of us that normally freezes when facing the unknown.

It frees us from being controlled by negative emotions and instead allows us to see a world of possibilities with expectancy.

Normalize uncertainty.

I'm learning today that doing something unknown is OK.

Experiencing new unknowns of life, is OK.

Having hard conversations that will lead to uncertain outcomes (yay workplace conflict resolution), is OK.

Uncertainty is OK.

It's an opportunity.

Here's what I'm telling myself; "David, get EXCITED at the uncertainty. Normalize it so when you come upon it, you get excited."

How can I say that?

Because there's a certainty in EVERY moment of EVERY day.

Christ is CONSTANT.

He never changes.

Amidst the uncertainty that seems to always be there, Christ remains constant.

Because of this certainty, I can find joy (yes, JOY) in the unknowns and uncertainty of life.

So instead of looking for certainty in life, I MUST find it in Christ.

Life is full of uncertainty and unknowns.

Get used to it.

Normalize it.

And find your consistency and constant certainty of where hope, joy, peace, love, rest, courage, wisdom, (I could keep going) come from.

Christ is constant.

Life is full of uncertainties.

Normalize those in your soul, David.

And find Joy.

I hope you have an AMAZING rest of your week!
