It's in the Details
I whipped out my phone and started reading through the maybe dozen entries in the Apple Journal app (just discovered this thing and I LOVE it).
I was a little overwhelmed as I read the scattered entries from over the last 3 months (your pal here is NOT the most consistent with journaling) and began to see patterns emerge.
I love patterns.
I'm not someone who remembers dates very well (overly dependent on my calendar probably) but man, when I discover patterns and systems, I get all excited!
A similar thing happened around 8pm yesterday, which led to a white board session until 1:30a.
To spare you the details, a discovery was made, which when looked into further, validated something I have been writing down and working on for a little over 2 years.
It's a model I've been building that maps a business lifecycle on a calculated chart using several different theories I've learned over time, and applying some technical analysis that I learned from a psychometrics startup I was part of a little ways back (RIP that opportunity, it was a legit product).
This morning as I was thinking about how long it's taken to get to this phase (starting to build a new product -- and one much needed in our company), I remembered the patterns I saw over the weekend in my journal and made one, simple, observation.
Details matter to God.
And it's remarkable to me that He would give us the gift of words - to document, share, and read.
Throughout His Word, He is constantly cataloging experiences which without context seem random and chaotic at times.
But when looked back upon, wow the patterns and systems that present themselves!
It's remarkable.
And it's inspiring me to journal more. (not easy, but I think worth it)
And listen, not everyone likes journaling, and not everyone has time.
Totally get it.
I just found it so encouraging to see the patterns of God's faithfulness, His answering prayers, and His perfect leading over the last several months (since finding the app haha) and several years (since building this model).
He really does care about the details and it's really quite a blessing.
Two action steps for you if you're up for it:
-
Start journaling, in a notes app could work to start, at least once per week. Doesn't have to be much - some of my recent entries have been 2-3 sentences to capture an idea or experience that I want to "bookmark".
-
Look back on what you've written down over the last couple years, months, weeks. Notice the patterns of God's working and praise Him for it!
And be encouraged - you are SEEN, LOVED, and boy is God wanting to do big things in your life :D
And if you're new here (thanks Dana for the shoutout last week!), I'm David! It's stellar to have you join the emails. You probably saw the vision email that I setup to send automatically when you signup, and that's all still true - just here to encourage you, especially all the young professionals out there - life is a gift and it's a joy to be alive!! Feel free to reply anytime, I love to read feedback on these ideas. :)
