On Vision

I seriously have an incredible life.

Like truly, top notch, highest rated, unbelievable and insanely wonderful relationships, best experiences and connections I could ask for kind of life.

And yet, the crazy rollercoaster of emotions is alive and well - and some days I just feel so miserably stuck.

I’ve been realizing that one of the most crucial elements to staying on course, and pushing past the feeling of being stuck … is vision.

Now, I’m a visionary, but I still find myself lacking in clear, concise vision.

From work, to personal life and planning, to dating - vision has been critical, and the hardest thing to define and maintain.

And yet, as I sit in my office racking my brain at which projects are highest priority, turning over every stone to find how I can make my clients more revenue and increase efficiency, and which channels to target so we can add maximum value to as many people’s lives as possible……

I’m reminded of the vision - the north star that makes it all make sense.

Every frustration (mostly patience related) that I’ve been facing, every time I have felt “stuck” and “lost” has, in my observation, stemmed from forgetting the vision.

It’s always when I reframe my thinking around the vision - where am I going and WHY - that I get my second wind and hit the ground … well, sometimes running, most times still crawling, but at least moving.

One thing that has helped recently, is a classic operations method…. The 5 Whys.

Ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing.

Like, what keeps you going?

Now ask, why is that important to you?

Then again - why is that important to you?

Again - why is that important to you?

and lastly, why is that important to you?

What you arrive at, is likely a very good indication of what your core motivation in life is.

Now, is that good enough?

How can it be better?

How can you protect that WHY and structure your life so that you achieve it?

Just a thought.

So, tonight, as I sit at the fire on the deck writing this, drinking my coffee before my third shift, I reminding myself both of my vision (for life, marriage, family, health, and business) and the importance of keeping that front of mind…….

especially during the building seasons of life - like right now.
