Weekly Recap
Happy Thursday!
I’m in Boise today and it’s totally reminding me of a Midwest version of my childhood hometown, Conshohocken, PA.
It’s been a full week, most progress made at Dovito in months, and yet every day battling this feeling of being behind, not enough, and failing.
As a result, it’s been a great week of growth where I’m learning, yet again, that progress isn’t dictated by motivation but rather by action.
Grateful for the people around me who remind me of priorities and encourage me to keep going.
Thoughts from Boise

Well, I did it again! Missed Tuesday.
I was traveling all day yesterday and was thinking through what I wanted to send (because at this point, hitting weekly sends is better than throwing it to the wind when I miss a Tuesday).
(Still not ready to release the identity series - soooo close!!)
Walking through downtown Boise (it’s a nice town, cleanest city I’ve been to so far I think, and also smallest I think haha) this morning to grab coffee I was looking around at the buildings - and two thoughts hit me.
1) There’s so much in this world - why do we live with this scarcity mindset … why do I?
Especially hit me driving by the Micron $50 Billion construction project (I have NEVER seen a construction site of that magnitude in-person) as I was listening to Jim Rohn last night….
Who would have thought that in the middle of Idaho you could just drop $50 Billion on a new building/infra? Largest Econ Dev project in the state’s history if I read it right.
Do you realize how much $50 Billion is?
Ok, then walking downtown it’s shop after shop, office after office, business after business.
All are competing, many are growing, some are barely hanging on.
And the world keeps spinning - growing at that.
2) Modern culture is a thief of creativity, relationships, and to an extent, joy.
Strong statement - let’s see if I can unpack it.
I love walking through larger towns and cities because you have multiculturalism on full display.
From the diversity in the people walking, to the buildings lining the streets - it’s quite something to take in.
The creativity in the classic architecture of old buildings contrasted with the rigid, plain, squared up brick buildings of the recent decades is wild to see on a single city block.
And sitting in this 1908 apartment, with deep colored finishes, full hardwood wainscoting, and creaking hardwood floors, I can’t help but breathe again.
I love our apartment back in Colorado, it’s truly home.
But it doesn’t have the same feel to this classic design and elegant finishes they used back in the day, nor does it make me feel quite this … free?
My mind is calmer and yet more creative just “being”, sitting here today.
Dianne Reeves and Nnenna Freelon are the backdrop with their jazzy classics filling this space all while I’m working multi-screen and ordering Uber Eats to my door.
I mean, it’s seriously like being in a Time Machine.
And all the while, this morning, as I was experiencing freshly the layers of culture and time periods melding (and in some ways clashing) it was striking to me how the most value we can find exists within the relationships we build over time.
And from those interconnected relationships, create and dream and build.
Roughly 4 out of every 5 people I passed had earbuds in today.
Not dissing, I do it too.
But what happened to the “Good morning!” and the “Hey Frank!” as we pass by in the warm rays of the sun down each city block.
What if “Frank” was the next connection I needed to unlock the next project which would produce massive value for him, the community, and my own family?
Do we even think about what we could create, build, and bring to reality from our dreams?
I genuinely believe we are facing the next greatest upgrade for human relationships, but most of the population is trading it in for some counterfeit living.
(My first draft and my thoughts are here - it’s a living article, to be reworked and expanded)
I miss the good ole days I never even lived - try to explain that to me.
Putting on my cashmere sweater, drinking an espresso downtown, staying in a classic apartment, filling the space with Jazz, sitting in the arm chair to just “think” before starting the next task… it’s all great but it feels out of place.
I walk out the door and I’m expected to fit in, to hurry up (and no one knows what for), to not challenge the norms, to accept everything I see as right and an expression of self to be celebrated…
….and yet our art gets more dull, our music isn’t what it was (even 40 years ago), people are more uncertain and confused despite the intense commitment to rituals and groups that promise enlightenment… it’s baffling to be honest.
How about an all-out commitment to developing relationships with people, in-person if you want to do it up right, and creating and bringing into reality our dreams?
I want to be part of that group.
And yes, I’m really tired of failing and want that big win I’ve worked my tail off for…. But what a blessing to have tried, and to have learned, and to have tried again.
If you’re looking to create, build, and dream - even if it’s just the desire to, with no idea of what yet - reply and let me know.
Really excited for what’s ahead!
Live purpose-filled and relationship rich!
